Lamar Neagle scored a hat-trick as the Seattle Sounders thrashed the Columbus Crew 6-2, in a showdown between two of the best sides in Major League Soccer.
As well as Neagle's effort, Crew's Jeff Cunningham became the league's record scorer, his second-half penalty taking him on to 134 goals and eclipsing Jaime Moreno's mark in the process.
The Sounders were 4-0 up at half-time thanks to two goals by Neagle in the fourth and 21st minutes as well as a penalty by Mauro Rosales (16) and a Mike Fucito strike (40).
Cunningham pulled one back with his record-breaking spot-kick (59) but Seattle restored their four-goal advantage through Neagle's third and best goal of the day, a shot from the edge of the area which hit the bar and bounced over the goalline. Josh Gardner hit one for the Crew before scoring an own goal as the Sounders completed a trouncing.
Two goals in the final two minutes saw FC Dallas claim a 3-2 win at Sporting Kansas City. Sporting had taken a two-goal lead through Kei Kamara (23) and Omar Bravo (68) and they seemed to be on course for victory.
However, Ugo Ihemelu pulled one back two minutes later and with 12 minutes left the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Teal Bunbury was sent off for a second bookable offence. Maicon Santos equalised with a minute left and then the comeback was complete when Bobby Warshaw scored the winner.
Colorado Rapids went down to a 2-0 defeat at Chicago Fire, Dominic Oduro (17) and Cory Gibbs (36) on target.
Real Salt Lake brushed off having to play with 10 men for 66 minutes as they won 1-0 at Chivas USA, Alvaro Saborio getting the only goal (11) before team-mate Nat Borchers was given a straight red card.
Toronto FC and San Jose Earthquakes drew 1-1, Eric Avila opening the scoring (33) with Chris Wondolowski getting an 87th-minute equaliser for the Earthquakes.
Shea Salinas scored the only goal in the 86th minute as Vancouver Whitecaps beat Houston Dynamo 1-0.
