Portland Timbers moved to fourth bottom after a 1-0 win over Chivas USA in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.
Eric Brunner scored the only goal a minute before half-time.The defender headed home powerfully from Mike Chabala's corner kick giving the Timbers their 10th goal off a set piece this season, the most in the MLS.
Known recently for giving up late goals, the Timbers were able to keep Chivas at bay, although the visitors came close in the final stages through Marcos Mondaini.
The result comes on the back of the Timbers announcing earlier in the day that they would expand capacity of their stadium for two matches this season, against New England on Sept. 16 and the regular-season home finale against Houston on Oct. 14.
Portland now leapfrog Chivas in the MLS Western Conference standings with their straight home win.
